This small citadel is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Monument. A famous monument in the Alta Murgia National Park in the territory of Andria, Castel del Monte, was built by Frederick II of Swabia on top of a hill near the Monastery of Santa Maria del Monte. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is depicted on the 1 euro cent coin, it has various architectural and geometric peculiarities €10. (updated Aug 2019)
  • Cathedral. The 12th-century cathedral has an even older crypt, dating from the 7th century. Two wives of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, Isabella of England and Jolanda of Brienne, are buried in the crypt.
  • The Porta Sant'Andrea in the historic centre is interesting, as are the portal of the church of Sant'Agostino, the Palazzo Ducale and the Torre dell' Clock..
