Feast of Saint Rita. May 22. This is an exclusively religious celebration, but very exciting. The population of the area is very devoted to Santa Rita, so the celebration is very popular and appreciated. In the procession that is organised for the occasion, many people decide to carry large candles and walk barefoot, in honour of the saint. It is also common, on this day, to see children dressed as Santa Rita.
Laceno d'oro, info@lacenodoro.it. Free. August-September. The Laceno d'oro - first a Review and then a Festival of Neorealist Cinema - was born in 1959 thanks to the faith in their dreams of two young intellectuals from Irpinia, Camillo Marino and Giacomo D'Onofrio, and to the tutelary deity of Pier Paolo Pasolini. Promoted by the magazine "Cinemasud", the film award entitled "Laceno d'Oro" tied its fate to one of the most beautiful locations in the province of Avellino. The award was born, in fact, to enhance the Laceno plateau from a tourist point of view and intended to be a recognition for the best cinematographic works inspired by Neorealism. From that year, until 1988, twenty-eight editions followed and only in 1980 did the earthquake manage to prevent its realization. After this period the Laceno d'Oro was reborn in the municipalities of Avellino, Atripalda and Mercogliano.
